Lets talk about Fun.

Main Post:

Fun. was a band most known for there absolutely stunning indie pop album some nights from 2012 with featured the songs Some Nights and We are Young to massive songs that still get played on the radio to this day. With the fantastic voice of there singer Nate Ruess and the incredible talent of there guitarist Jack Antonoff its no surprise that they did so amazingly but in 2015 they ended up going on a (probably permeant) hiatus. I wish there guys would come back in the future but with how busy Jack is and with Nate having a child I doubt it'll happen anytime soon which is unfortunate because they were truly the best of the best..

Top Comment: Jack Antonoff really do be working on everything except a new Fun. album. The Some Nights album pretty much defined my senior year of high school. We sang the two big hits from that album for our choir and “We Are Young” basically felt like our graduating theme song. Listening back recently I don’t think it’s aged perfectly (the autotune solo on the title track is...a choice) but it holds a lot of sentimental value for me. Fun. really had the potential to become pop mainstays and then they disbanded shortly after the peak of their popularity.

What are subreddits that are hilarious?

Main Post:

r/shittyfoodporn is the subreddit where the comments are funnier than the post. Seriously. Every time I am depressed or a bit upset, I visit that subreddit because I know the comments will be hella funny.

I wonder if there's more subreddits like that so I can add it to my depressed to-do list.

What is “fun”?

Main Post:

What objectively is “fun”? A similar situation is “what is happiness?” Which does have an answer. The feeling you get when you achieve your values. So if this has answer then what is “fun?”

I can’t quite get a solid answer for this but I have a theory about what it could be. I think fun necessarily has to do with the process unlike the end result which is happiness. Which you can do utterly pointlessly ending things but yet still be “fun”. And I also think it necessarily has to do with the “fulfillment” of something. A fantasy or an imagination of how we think something would be. But that’s as far as I got

What do you guys think “fun” is? Objectively of coarse

Top Comment: Fun is just fun. Different people find different things fun. Not everything gets super deep or complicated. I wouldn’t overthink this one. It’s like when Rand was asked what Objectivists should find funny and she said, “how the hell would I know?” Some people find basketball fun, some don’t. Find what’s fun for you, fit within your values and priorities, and enjoy.

Reddit isn’t much fun anymore

Main Post:

I’m on the verge of giving up on reddit. I’ve noticed the significant impact on content that their changes last summer have made. I can’t sort my home or news feed by popular anymore; there are so many bot repostings; and the algorithm just keeps feeding me the same dozen-or-so subs. It’s boring to scroll and I hardly ever stop and read anything anymore. Probably a lot of people have left but is anyone else here noticing these things?

Top Comment: Yeah I'm here out of habit mostly. I've been on reddit for about 13 years so I just drift here I guess. The subs for content I'm actually interested in are not all that interesting anymore and the more popular subs are unbearable. Reddit as a whole just doesn't grab me like it used to. I imagine at some point I'll just sort of stop using it without thinking about it.

What was the last really fun thing you did with a group of friends?

Top Comment: Every Friday we have an open invitation to all our friends called MYOPN - Make Your Own Pizza Night. We make dough, cut up olives, onions, artichoke hearts, peppers, etc. We have pepperoni, sauce, cheese and assorted other things. Someone always shows up, usually 5 or more friends. It’s the best.

IWTL How to have fun. This is not a joke.

Main Post:

I (19m) deadass do not know how to have fun sometimes. I seriously don't know how.

Everything in my life has only ever been obsessively focused on succeeding or failing, and basically nothing else.

Everything I have ever done has been under a very close, very watchful eye for imperfection and criticism, especially artistic pursuits, of which I have basically had zero.

How do I have fun when learning a skill? It always feels exceedingly horribly uncomfortable every time I try something new because I am not "succeeding" immediately.

How do I get out of this "success or failure or nothing else" mindset?

Top Comment: Try this, I’m not kidding. Start doing jigsaw puzzles. Like, challenge yourself to get into it a bit, find some weird ones that are 500 or 1000 pieces put some time into it. Don’t give up and start paying attention to how your mind feels and operates after you have a few sessions and you’re an hour or so into it each time. It’s a very simple and mindless act of ‘doing’ that will help you slow down and recognize who you are ‘being’. And who knows? You might find yourself meeting some really interesting folks too.

What are some fun, casual, harmless acts of free will you can do on any given day just because you can?

Main Post:

It’s easy to fall into the monotony of existence and forget free will and whimsy. I’d love to hear some ideas on things to do just for the sake of doing them. Can be as chill as getting on a random train and seeing where you end up or as weird as going alone to bar you don’t normally frequent with a totally made up identity
